OAS celebrates Pisco Sour Day in Washington(7 February, 2012) ![]() The Organization of American States (OAS) celebrated Pisco Sour Day late Friday during a tasting event organized by the Embassy of Peru in the United States and the Permanent Mission of Peru to the OAS. In attendance were OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza; the permanent representative of Peru to the OAS, Walter Albán; the Peruvian Ambassador to the United States, Harold Forsyth; the President of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and Diego Garcia Sayan, among others. The celebration was held in the Hall of the Americas of the regional organization, where attendees enjoyed different varieties of pisco and various ways of preparing the pisco sour, Peru's national drink. "It was a magnificent evening which allowed us to present the benefits of our flagship cocktail before a very select audience," said Ambassador Forsyth. Diplomats, officials of various international organizations based in the U.S. capital, representatives of various U.S. government agencies, and members of the U.S. government tasted the increasingly popular Peruvian cocktail. "The presence of our pisco has increased this year and in particular the consumption of pisco sour in major commercial establishments in Washington DC, demonstrating the strength of our national cocktail in the demanding local market," Forsyth added. Pisco Sour Day is commemorated the first Saturday of February every year. Fuente: Andina, news agency. |
